GOUACHE 101

GOUACHE 101
INSTRUCTOR: LORI GANNI

Gouache (pronounced "gwash") is an incredibly versatile water-based medium that gives artists the ability to create opaque layers and dimensional effects. I use gouache when painting outside or traveling rather than oils because it is so easy to clean up and transport and done right, it can behave like oil!

This unique and exciting medium will allow you to work from dark to light, reconstitute paint on the canvas even after it dries, paint on virtually any surface, and never ruin your brushes or workspace!

I will introduce you to 3 different types of gouache: (Himi jelly, Designer and Acrylic) and show you techniques to create the right consistency to achieve the effect you want. We will cover common mistakes with gouache and how to overcome them, so you will love the gouache experience!

This class is open to anyone with or without painting or drawing experience. Get out of your comfort zone and try something new! We will finish an 8" x 8" painting of your choice ready for framing.

All supplies will be provided for a $30 fee, payable to your instructor at the start of class.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Lori has been painting since she was in grade school and has had wonderful mentors and teachers along the way, studying at John Herron School of Art, Art Institute of Atlanta, and Denver Art Student’s League. She believes everyone is an artist and encourages students to take chances and find their own style. Art is about expression and joy, not competition! She spends her free time with her husband, kids and grandkids or painting ‘plein air’ at many beautiful places in Colorado and New Mexico. Lori’s love of travel and frequent trips to the mountains, deserts, Mexico and the Caribbean, provide unlimited inspiration. Follow her on Facebook: Painting on the Rocks.
