HANDBUILDING FOR KIDS + FAMILY

CLAY HAND-BUILDING FOR KIDS + ADULTS
INSTRUCTOR: DINA BREDAHL

Kids and families (and adults without kids welcome too!) will learn the basics of working with clay using hand building techniques. We will work on fun pottery projects like bowls, ornaments, sculptures, and more!

This is a great experience for children 6 and up, as well as adults. For kids that might need a little extra help, we recommend that an adult sign up with them. The #1 rule is to have fun! As students progress they can choose their own projects while continuing to build their skills. This class will also go over the basics of glazing clay. Participants should wear clothes they don’t mind getting a little dirty.

Family members wishing to be in the classroom need to register due to space limitations.

MATERIALS
Clay is provided with a $20 fee payable to your instructor at the start of class. Bisque and glaze firing is charged at $0.06 per cubic inch. Class will take place in Studio 128. There will be tools available to share during class, but you may also pick up your own pottery toolkit at the front desk for $15.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Hi, I'm Dina Bredahl (pronounced Deena). I began taking pottery classes in January 2019. My husband gave me the gift of a month of Clay to Kiln class at Cottonwood Center for the Arts, in Colorado Springs. The wonderful community and excellent instruction, as well as the addictive properties of clay, quickly morphed me into an avid hobby potter.

The possibilities of what can be created with clay are truly endless. While exploring the tip of the pottery iceberg, I found satisfaction and a creative outlet in altering the forms of wheel-thrown pots. (Basically I enjoy messing up my pots!). Organic forms, dark clay and interesting glazes are common elements of my work. View my work at potterybydina.com.
