SOFT PASTELS WORKSHOP
SOFT PASTEL LANDSCAPE WORKSHOP
INSTRUCTOR: LIZ AMACHER
In this beginner to intermediate soft pastel workshop, learn how to paint a pastel landscape! You will learn how to determine values in a photograph in order to choose the correct colors for your painting, as well as how to mix cool and warm colors to create vibrancy. You will also learn how to create an underpainting by blocking in dark values and using a paintbrush and rubbing alcohol.
MATERIALS
Your instructor will supply easels, brushes, rubbing alcohol, and your reference photo. Here’s what to purchase and bring to class:
• Soft pastel set (Sennelier, Schminke, Blue Earth, Unison). Here is a set we found on Amazon. The strategies learned in this course will NOT work with hard pastels or student grade pastels.
• At least 2 sheets of pastel paper, 9x12 (Uart 400 grit in Sand is ideal…we don’t recommend Canson). Here is a pad of ten sheets of paper online.
The best place to shop for these materials locally is Meininger Art Supply at 814 S. Tejon.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Liz Amacher is from Virginia and started her creative journey in art at an early age. She originally worked in pen and ink or graphite, and later began re-exploring watercolor and pastels. After moving to Colorado in 2016, Liz was inspired by the Colorado sunlight and its cast shadows and began creating her own still life arrangements to capture the iridescent glow of nature.
Liz has served in public education for the past 15 years as an English teacher, art teacher, and now as an education administrator. When she was in the classroom, she always incorporated visual art elements into her lessons, and students enjoyed learning through a variety of lenses.
Liz resides in Colorado with her husband, Mike, and a feisty 9 year old Border Collie, Ruby. You can view more of her beautiful art work at www.lizamacher.com.
